Position Summary:

As Head of X-Plant Manufacturing Engineering, the incumbent will Manage and lead all X-Plant department activities related to the Manufacturing Engineering within FAL-Mobile and the European Plants & Suppliers. Ensures Operational priorities are managed within X-Plant M.E Team to ensure X-Plant department deliverables are achieved according to the FAL & Flightline milestones.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage, lead and develop XP Manufacturing Engineering department
  • Ensure all M.E activities are well coordinated and communicated within the XP MFT's
  • Be the Plants and supplier's focal point for escalated key XP M.E topics
  • Actively prepare and contribute to the HABIT routines to ensure good exchange of information and improvements with the plants
  • Develop, maintain and update X-Plant Manufacturing Engineering training and development requirements
  • Manage the Manufacturing Engineering Team's priorities according to the FAL milestones and provide proactive support
  • Provide high level technical support to FAL production in an efficient way. Establish/verify the technical content of non-conformities
  • Resolve MFT escalations and ensure clear/timely escalation when necessary
  • Manage continuous improvement opportunities and optimize internal organization of the XP M.E
  • Responsible for ME process monitoring and process Improvement
  • Actively prepare for and Participate in the X-Plant MFT and Leadership meetings
  • Manage and develop a talented & engaged team
  • Coach, lead and motivate your team- provide Technical leadership and guidance to wider FAL & Flightline

  • Work as a key member of the FAL-Mobile X-Plant Management to ensure FAL and Flightline Stations have visibility, communication and status of critical items

  • Manage Optimization and support implement processes/ways of working to improve the overall department and business
  • Prevention and elimination of disturbances in the manufacturing process and monitoring the interfaces between the FAL and Suppliers
  • Actively lead and contribute to QPS routines within X-Plant and FAL- contribute to elimination/resolution of repetitive NC's within the FAL
  • Manage and integrated the activities performed in FAL by Airbus Plants & Suppliers
  • Ensure consistency of operations and products in the SA Programme by regular exchange of best practice between other Airbus FALs and plants- HABIT Reviews preparation, participation, implementation and feedback
  • Select the best people for jobs, lead and coach the team and develop their skills. High flexibility and "multiple skill" requirements for the workforce and the management due to the small team during start-up
  • Preserve a high standard of technical knowledge among the workforce in a context of mobility, turn-over and integration of new Manufacturing Engineers, Quality and Operations
  • Ensure fulfillment of legal and airworthiness requirements to ensure Operation, such as demonstration of compliance for the maintenance of the POA
  • Contribute to enhancing the corporate image by ensuring the FAL environment standard is high and continuously improved
  • Other duties as assigned

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Develop KPIs for the team in line with X-Plant and Site objectives
  • Organize the training and development of the team (classroom, on the job training).
  • Plan regular feedback loops with the Production Team
  • Subject matter expert on-site for X-Plant manufacturing engineering tech support
  • Monitor team status to ensure KPIs are being meet daily, weekly, monthly and yearly
  • Ensure the full support of the X-Plant team meaning flexibility and availability.
  • Participate actively to X-Plant and FAL projects
  • Proven ability to coordinate several complex projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Perform other duties as assigned (vacation planner; participate in SQCDP / PPC.)
  • Give priorities and context to the Team.
  • Participate actively at the Airbus Operating System initiatives (AOS)
  • Create relationships with others plants and suppliers in Europe

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

  • Required: Demonstrated experience in managing and leading
  • Required: Minimum 6 years of Manufacturing Engineering experience within Airbus, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Required: Manufacturing Engineering experience and strong skill set
  • Required: Experience in working with internal & external partners, suppliers and plants
  • Preferred: X-Plant and/or Plant experience
  • High degree of flexibility and initiative
  • Proven ability to influence others and lead teams
  • Proven ability to coordinate several projects and tasks simultaneously
  • Strong knowledge of the Airbus worksharing structure, specifically the A320 Program

Education:

  • Required: BS Degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Possess and demonstrate excellent management and leadership skills.
  • Demonstrate good judgment, flexibility, you are results oriented, able to work under minimum supervision and you observe tight delivery deadlines.

Communication Skills (Spoken, Written, Influencing, Proficiency in Other Languages):

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate in German, French and Spanish (desirable)
  • Have the ability to establish and maintain a good relationship with internal and external customers.
  • Have the ability to work in an international team.
  • Must possess excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to present clear and concise briefings and reports internally and externally

This position directly reports to the Head of X-Plant FAL-Mobile and manages a team of X-Plant Manufacturing Engineers I, II , III and Supervisors

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision: adequate to enter and read material on computer screens. Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, the giving of directions and other business interactions
  • Hearing: able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office settings. Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals.
  • Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification.
  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment. Working on jigs at fuselage at a height of 15 feet. Able to work on hydraulic lifts sometimes at a height of up to 40 feet.
  • Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 20lbs/9kg which engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.
  • Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 20lbs/9kg.
  • Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.
  • Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves. Able to work outside hangers in changing locations. Able to work on movable lifts at the aircraft at a height of approximately 40 ft. Sometimes may work in a ventilated fuel tank with a mask in a confined space. Able to enter a with through a 9.8 by 17.7 inch oval opening.
  • Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time delivering information.
  • Travel: able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time.

Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces.
