Position Summary:

Responsible for directly managing a team of Quality Managers with varying scope to demonstrate and react towards the compliance of FAL-USA Site operations to Regulatory requirements with the Aviation Authorities and to our Airline Customers.

The Head of Quality Assurance Department is responsible to secure management of the core Airbus QMS within the FAL-USA securing all processes and qualification of personnel to meet the requirements.

The Head of Quality Assurance is actively working on the site level to ensure that Quality Site Services are secured and being delivered through the team and process. As well as managing the Documentation and process ecosystem for this activity.

In addition securing the network back to Europe to promote and imbed common ways of working across the Airbus FAL's and harmonization of the Quality Assurance Teams as close as possible.

Utilizing a team and the tools and process' of the Airbus QMS the system an operation of the FAL-USA is to be monitored for continued compliance and where gaps are identified it is the responsible in the role to initiate action and provide visibility to Management and the required network.

Primary Responsibilities:

Maintaining the Airbus QMS and the POA Footprint of the FAL-USA and ensuring continued compliance: 20%

  • Secure the publishing and the maintaining of the FAL-USA Management System Manual covering all FAL-USA activities incl. back-office and USA Operations which support the Production Organization Approval (POA) to be granted by EASA.
  • Ensure the management of the approval audit-plan agreed with Authorities and POA-holder to achieve the extension of the POA to FAL-USA.
  • Ensure the Internal Audit Plan is implemented and reviewed in line with Airbus Central Quality targets and requirements including an operational surveillance system embedded in the operating system.
  • Maintain a Compliance review providing visibility to all Management and Functions responsible for the continued surveillance of the POA Footprint.
  • Actively manage the risk to the Production Approvals for the site; specifically on the A320 Final Assembly Line.

Manage specific process(s) locally which are owned by the Quality Department: 20%

  • Implement and maintain the staff qualification-process and system including the demands and requirements of the Production System.
  • Deploy, oversee and review the non-conformance (NC) management process.
  • Ensure the effectiveness and efficiency of the Quality controlling system for industrial processes including their Qualification.
  • ICT Functional LDA Roles are managed and secured within the local Quality team.
  • Manage Logistics and Transport Quality roles as delegated by Central Functions.

Implement, manage and maintain the Quality Performance Management System: 20%

  • Define and deploy a set of key-performance-indicators (KPI) and the related reporting system.
  • Ensure the efficiency of the survey- and audit-system (QM-System, Process-, Product) and the related corrective action management.
  • Ensure and maintain the efficiency of KPI in line with Program and FAL-internal requirements.
  • Ensure harmonization with Central Quality and Single Aisle Back-Office Quality Departments for KPI Reporting and Improvement Projects

Manage and Lead a Team of cross competence Quality Professionals in a Single Aisle Quality Network: 20%

  • Through direct reports manage and lead a team, including its development, to ensure execution of the above accountabilities and responsibilities.
  • Integrate flexibility into the team and ensure that the team maintains its output and standards when fluctuations occur.
  • Work across the FAL's to share and engage in best practice ways of working.
  • Work within the Single Aisle Quality Departments to ensure the ways of working and managing issues is secured.
  • Ensure Lean methodologies and principles are part of the daily way of working and mindsets.

Ensure Site compliance by ensuring harmony and alignment between programs: 10%

  • Working to align and make the process of the QMS applicable to the site, where this is possible.
  • Deploy and maintain the working documents which allow the site to operate as a multi-program site.
  • Represent Airbus Quality in front of the Authorities from a Program level and ensure updates on Quality issues are provided.
  • Drive improvements, via focused data and feedback, through the business to improve Customer Satisfaction.

  • Improvement Projects identified through the FAL locally or via Central or Program Quality.
  • Quality system improvement initiatives and organization drives to improve.
  • Setting of Quality and Departmental Targets, yearly and daily.
  • Acting, and being seen to act, in accordance with Airbus Quality standards and leadership mindset.
  • Produce reports showing trends and data of the QMS and its output to the business.
  • Work as part of the Quality Leadership Team to set key projects and directives for the FAL and Aisle Quality Network which improve on the Business Defined Scorecards.
  • Participate in the definition and live the Quality Ways of Working in FAL-USA.
  • Be involved in crisis management meetings and in some cases lead them.
  • Be prepared to travel to Europe and other sites as required.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

Education:

  • Preferred: Degree in Aeronautical/Industrial Engineering or equivalent experience in Production (Aerospace or other) Quality Departments.

Experience:

  • Required: Minimum 5 years' experience in Aerospace and/or equivalent environment; however, quality experience is preferred
  • Required: Minimum of 2 years of leadership experience, preferably in a management capacity; however, project and process leadership may also be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Proven Leader of effective teams which generate results.
  • Strong and effective Practical Problem Solving skills (demonstrable).
  • Understanding of the Kaizen approach to Manufacturing.
  • Knowledge about non-conformance management and Root Cause Analysis methods within Airbus.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the Airbus Quality Management System and its process.
  • Knowledge of the Production process and build cycle.
  • Knowledge of rules for aircraft design and manufacturing
  • Familiar with the American aviation market, its Airlines and Airline Representatives
  • Ability to quickly understand technical documents.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong IT Skills in the main Software Programs (Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, Power-point)
  • Strong communication skills through all levels of the organization and Functions.
  • Strong international communication skills.
  • Strong and effective Practical Problem Solving skills (demonstrable).

Equipment Operation: Able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment. Working on jigs at the fuselage at a height of 15 feet. Able to work on hydraulic lifts sometimes at a height of up to 40 feet.

Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 55lbs/25kg while engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.

Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 55lbs/25kg.

Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.

Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.

Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
