Position Summary:  

The A320 Head of Quality Planning and Surveillance is responsible to ensure accurate Quality planning of Inspection, Surveillance, Industrial Qualification activities for the A320 Final Assembly Line Operations.  Secures the oversight of the Operations are completed by performing  Surveillance and Industrial Qualification through a team, drumbeats actions within the team to investigate via recognized Root Cause Analysis methods.  Also, through a team of Problem Solvers, reacts to problems by engaging a multi-functional team in Root Cause Corrective Action eradication.  To secure the overall system of surveillance on operations, secure complete and full industrial qualification and secure quality standards within the Final Assembly Line. 

Primary Responsibilities:  

  • Quality Planning and Management to ensure oversight and management of Operational System: 20%
  • Develop and Perform operational Surveillance Performance according to an annual plan: 20%
  • Manage the complete Industrial Qualification dossier and ensure its accuracy: 20%
  • Allocated RCCA via Problem Solving capability on the Product issues impacting a business area: 20%
  • Continually improves the Control and Inspection plan for the Aircraft; ensuring material for Inspectors is clear and unambiguous to secure product integrity: 10% 
  • Other duties as assigned:  10% 

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:  

Education:Preferred:

  • Degree in Aeronautical/Industrial Engineering or
  • Equivalent experience in Production (Aerospace or other) Quality Departments. 

Experience: 

  • 5 years' plus experience in Aerospace and/or equivalent environment.
  • Quality experience preferred. 

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Proven Leader of effective teams that generate results.
  • Strong and effective Practical Problem-Solving skills (demonstrable).
  • Understanding of Kaizen approach to Manufacturing.
  • Knowledge about non-conformance management and Root Cause Analysis methods within Airbus.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of the Airbus Quality Management System and its process.
  • Knowledge of the Production process and build cycle.
  • Knowledge of rules for aircraft design and manufacturing
  • Familiar with the American aviation market, its Airlines and Airline Representatives
  • Ability to quickly understand technical documents.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong IT Skills in the main Software Programs (i.e. Excel, Access, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
  • Strong communication skills through all levels of the organization and Functions.
  • Strong international communication skills.
  • Strong and effective Practical Problem-Solving skills (demonstrable). 

Travel Required:

  • 5% Domestic and International.

  • Leadership and Management responsibilities in line with their scope and frame of disciplinary authority.
  • Ability to modify, change and/or alter Quality dossiers and documents within set guidelines.
  • Decision-making power within the guidelines and procedures linked to the listed responsibilities defined above.
  • Decision-making power formally delegated from the Head of Quality.
  • Decision-making power within the defined scope of SME (Subject Matter Expert) for which can and may be nominated.

  • Compliance of the Airbus QMS and its impact on the regulatory approvals which are given to Airbus by the Aviation Authorities.

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision: adequate to enter and read material on computer screens.  Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, the giving of directions and other business interactions
  • Hearing: able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office settings.   Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals.
  • Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification.
  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment.  Working on jigs at fuselage at a height of 15 feet.  Able to work on hydraulic lifts sometimes at a height of up to 40
  • Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 55lbs/25kg which engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.
  • Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 55lbs/25kg.
  • Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.
  • Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
  • Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time.
  • Travel: able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces.
