Position Summary:

The FTZ & Customs Specialist shall conduct activities and processes required to administer a compliant and efficient Foreign-Trade Zone while supporting and providing regulatory guidance to ensure that the FAL-USA complies with corporate import policies, FTZ & U.S. Customs regulations.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee or conduct the daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly activities and processes required to administer a compliant and efficient Foreign-Trade Zone, including but not limited to the oversight and/or preparation and submission of the daily FTZ admissions (e-214).
  • Ensure all weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual FTZ forms and reports necessary for FTZ operations are reviewed for accuracy and timely submitted to relevant stakeholders.
  • Maintain proper record keeping required for management of the FTZ.
  • Ensure accuracy of FTZ inventory and maintain the FTZ inventory control and record keeping system.
  • Provide routinely status and reports concerning activities related to the Foreign-Trade Zone to direct management.
  • Process and verify FTZ related data.
  • Review and assess FTZ data against actual source documentation to ensure accuracy of integration and information.
  • Conduct routine reviews of transactions and processes and make recommendations on improvements.
  • Perform an annual compliance assessment and report the findings in preparation of CBP FTZ annual review.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:  

Required:

  • 2+ years of experience administering a foreign-trade zone, or related professional import experience in a real world environment. Related experience includes filing Customs Entries or creating in-bond transactions.
  • Experience creating 7512 in-bonds an understanding of in-bond shipment/transport
  • Understanding of merchandise classification to the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States (HTS-US) and Schedule B, and import transactions.
  • Working knowledge of logistics and transportation activities, including import activities.

Preferred:

  • Excellent analytical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with voluntary customs initiatives such as Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT), Importers Self-Assessment (ISA) and Broker-Importer Trusted Trader Program
  • Experience with SAP ERP and Global Trade Management software, such as Integration Point
  • Experience working for a Customhouse Broker
  • Experience dealing directly with U.S. Customs and Border Protection.
  • Experience with import and compliance systems

Education:

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Fluent/advanced proficiency in English

Preferred:

  • Licensed Customs Broker
  • Certified U.S. Import Compliance Officer (CUSICO), Certified U.S. Import Professional (CITP), Certified International Trade Manager (CITM), Certified International Trade Documentation Specialist (CITDS)

Intermediate/conversational proficiency in French, Spanish or German language

Experience:

  • Required: 2+ years experience in customs.

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities:

  • Required: Knowledge of business intelligence software, Microsoft Office (i.e., Excel).

Travel Required:

  • <10% Domestic and International.

  • Ability to ascertain and explain variances to planning.

Equipment Operation Able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment.

Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 20lbs/9kg which engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.

Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 20lbs/9kg.

Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.

Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.

Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.

Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time.

Travel: able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time. Working outside hangers in changing locations.

Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces.
