Position Summary of the A220 Quality Engineer -Technical Writing:

  • Guarantee the conformity of a product/service to the requirements specified by our customers, and support on quality on time and on cost delivery by delivering right first time to increase customer loyalty
  • Within the Aircraft Final Assembly Line and in close collaboration with Tool room and Jig/tools, support the calibration plan on time, on cost and on quality and assure that calibrations are performed with the appropriate procedures, standard equipment, conditions and technicians
  • Assure requirements applicable to calibration and calibrations certificates analysis, put in place an effective recall system for equipment to re-calibrate and identify equipment with its respective metrological status
  • Ensure that a measurements management system is put in place and managed to achieve metrological confirmation and continual control of measurement processes  

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Identify improvement opportunities, analyze the current situation and potential benefits, apply lean and quality principles by application of the process approach, or selection of appropriate approaches, methods and tool, and lead or contribute
  • Ensure the Tool Management System is in line with the Airbus Quality Management System remains compliant with internal and external requirements
  • Knowledge of the Quality Management System (QMS) aligned to the job held, including all applicable regulatory (EASA, ECSS), standards (9100/9100/AQAP2110), legal, environmental requirements, policies, directives, processes and methods that need to be complied with. Knowledge of topics key to Quality, i.e. pro-active prevention and continuous improvement, APQP, core tools (Quality Gates, CI's/KT's, FMEA, Control Plan, SPC, PPS), Q6, CNQ, workmanship and FOD prevention
  • Ability to adapt and use multiple forms of interaction styles to convince and/or persuade people/stakeholders to follow ideas and proposals. Ability to negotiate & influence using reasoned advocacy in order to gain buy-in as well as using facilitation through common and newly identified Quality Control methods, ensure that sufficient means of control are in place thereby ensuring that the manufacturing facility remains compliant to all relevant standards and procedures
  • Ensure product conformity attestation, by managing the QA attribution / Ops Surveillance / Inspection Control Plan using the relevant control systems, tools and methods knowing the:
    • Generic rules for inspection in accordance with the definition dossier and process instruction documentation
    • Generic rules on ground tests performed in the working area
    • Relevant standards, regulations, measurements, certification of people, basics on airworthiness
    • Ability to search, read and understand technical data such as design drawings
  • Implement Key Performance Indicators to ensure that standards of tool calibration & Quality are improved and/or adapted where necessary
  • Perform surveillance activities to ensure adherence to target condition and generate/implement improvement opportunities. Set the quality standard for both new service introduction at initial design before any process changes are made and continuously through the product life cycle. Manage subcontractor performance in line with General Conditions of Purchase and verify compliance. Work with subcontractor to implement clear, detailed and achievable improvement plans
  • Capture and re-use Lessons Learnt
  • Perform Quality Audits through a deployed system of verified compliance and report the results to the required internal/external authority
  • Perform other duties as assigned 

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:


  • Preferred: Degree in Aeronautical/Industrial Engineering


  • Required: 5 years' plus, preferably with an international aviation company in Aircraft Manufacturing/ Quality/ Lean Management/ Quality Inspection of entire Aircraft or Aircraft installations

Knowledge, Skills, Demonstrated Capabilities Required:

  • Good Knowledge about non-conformance management and Root Cause Analysis methods within Airbus
  • Strong and effective Practical Problem Solving skills (demonstrable)
  • Understanding of Kaizen approach to Manufacturing
  • Knowledge of the production process and build cycle
  • Knowledge of rules for aircraft design and manufacturing
  • Knowledge of aircraft mechanical & electrical installation
  • Familiar with the American aviation market, its Airlines and Airline Representatives
  • Ability to quickly understand procedural and technical documents
  • Strong communication skills through all levels of the organization and functions
  • Strong international communication skills
  • Strong presentation skills

Travel Required:

  • 10% Domestic and International


  • Authorized to Work in the US

  • Decision making power within the guidelines and procedures linked to the listed responsibilities defined above
  • Decision making power formally delegated to him/her from the Head of Product Assurance
  • Decision making power within the defined scope of SME (Subject Matter Expert) for which they can and may be nominated

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision: adequate to enter and read material on computer screens. Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, the giving of directions and other business interactions
  • Hearing: able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office settings.   Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals
  • Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification.
  • Equipment Operation: able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment. Working on jigs at fuselage at a height of 15 feet. Able to work on hydraulic lifts sometimes at a height of up to 40 feet
  • Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 55lbs/25kg which engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects
  • Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 55lbs/25kg
  • Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas
  • Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings
  • Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves
  • Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time
  • Travel: able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes
  • Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces
