Position Summary:

Responsible for the management for Tool Room attendants' daily activities a nd development of training plans. Manage an operational budget and forecast tooling requirement based on production planning. Manager multiple 3rd party suppliers contracted to perform calibration services, supply production consumable material, working clothing and personal protection equipment.

Essential Functions

  • Experience working in a tool room
  • Responsible for interfacing with tooling service providers
  • Responsible for administering tool calibration program
  • Ensures appropriate tooling is available and accounted for at each production station at the start and end of shift
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators(KPIs)S to measure the Tool Shop's performance.
  • Develop Tool Control policies and implement standard operating instructions (SOIs) in accordance with Airbus Quality Management Systems(QMS).
  • Evaluate, maintain and request equipment for the tool room
  • Schedule corrective maintenance activities for transport and assembly jigs.
  • Develop a tool storage system and tool management system compatible with production requirements.
  • Conducti periodic inventory of tooling and consumable materials.
  • Ensure 5S is maintained within all Tool Room storage locations
  • Evaluate and recommend departmental staffing levels.
  • Manage departmental operational budget.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements

  • Able to communicate effectively written and orally
  • A minimum of 3 years leading/managing a team.
  • General knowledge of hand tools, power hand tools and industrial tooling used in the aviation industry.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of shop safety and OSHA regulations
  • Understanding of tooling technologies, tool design and operation.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct practical problem solving and provide solutions. 
  • SAP experience desired.


Education/Special Qualifications (schooling, certifications):

    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.


Working Conditions/Physical Demands (for ex. Lifting, working in heights):

Vision: adequate to enter and read material on computer screens, thoroughly inspect precision tools and review/record on reports. Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, the giving of directions and other business interactions

Hearing: able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office and production floor settings. Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals.

Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification.

Equipment Operation: Able to operate a wide range of industrial, personal and office equipment.

Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 40lbs/18kg when engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.

Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 40lbs/18kg.

Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items throughout plant.

Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.

Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces.

Space Limitations: Working on jigs at fuselage at a height of 15 feet. Working in the wing or center box in a confined space. Entrance into wing through a 9.8 inch x 17.7 inch oval opening. Handling of automated drilling units (weight up to approximately 40 lbs./18 kg.).

Squatting/Kneeling: able to regularly squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.

Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time.

Travel: able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time.
