Position Summary:

Being a key player in the Logistics Operation, the Transportation Manager contributes significantly to the overall improvement of the performance & reliability of the Supply Chain & Logistics Operation. The position is accountable for the performance of the Transport Service Provider (TSP) in supporting the operations at FAL Mobile as well as the Airbus Ground Handling Team.

Major accountabilities are:  

  • Monitor TSP level of service and performance reporting via various KPIs while managing escalation topics and alerts.
  • Manage risk and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Ensure adherence to budget and monitor spending.
  • Accountable for TSP compliance to regulatory obligations and fully empowered to represent local Airbus Logistics Operations. For these topics there is a functional link to General Cargo Transport (DTL) and Oversized Surface Transport (DTS).
  • Continuously monitor and improve transport processes and the quality of their output by introduction of lean principles, technologies, generation of innovative ideas and optimization.
  • Manage daily objectives and priorities for the on-site ground handling team and ensure safe and effective operations and workload manning.
  • Ensure equipment is well maintained and operated in accordance with prescribed capabilities.

Perform related duties as assigned or as the situation dictates.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Ensures performance of TSP service provider:
    • Implement and control KPIs (service, cost, quality)
    • Ensure strong TSP performance & improvement control
    • Anticipate, understand/challenge customer's requests (LEAN, VSM, etc.) and ensure implementation of changes by TSP, check results
    • Propose and drive local improvement initiatives, share experience & practices via TSP service managers network
    • Assist corporate audits, ask & drive specific audits on request

 

Manages TSP contract compliance:

  • Manage scope change request, ad-hoc service, handling units volume & forecasts (incl. rate readiness)
  • Anticipate TSP means & operational evolution for ramp-up & downturn
  • Ensure TSP regional network & infrastructure evolution to cope with AIRBUS strategy and industrial set up (make to buy, ramp-up, new risk sharing partnership, new Aircraft program, change in manufacturing footprint etc.)
  • Ensure TSP adheres to contractual obligations set by Airbus

 

Continuous Improvement:

  • Manage and drive improvement projects for TSP
  • Monitor and implement efficiencies in ground handling operations
  • Preparation of business cases
  • Support in the creation of specifications for change requests
  • Participate in setting the business / logistics strategy including ensure production ramp-up requirements are met
  • Understand and employ Lean Manufacturing philosophies and techniques
  • Ensure budget adherence
  • Defining and implementing lean processes including SQCDP

 

Qualified Experience / Skills / Training:

  • 1-2 years' experience in operational analysis, organizational engineering, or production management
  • Demonstrable knowledge of Lean Methods and processes.  Experience in Lean activities is preferred.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prepare and deliver presentations and training.
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision as well as a member of a cross-functional team.
  • Demonstrable skill in distilling information and drawing accurate and succinct conclusions from technical as well as anecdotal and historical data.

 

Other functions:

  • Responsible for on-site training of team members.

 Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements (Skills needed):

  • Minimum 5 years experience working within the community of Supply Chain and Logistics
  • Proven leadership capabilities having managed teams directly
  • Sound working knowledge of health, safety and environmental
  • Experience managing an external service provider
  • Experience in methods of producing and reporting Key Performance Indicators (KPI)
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills  

Desired Skills:

  • Contractual / legal awareness
  • Experience in implementation of service level agreements
  • Knowledge of common applications such as SAP/R3 (Module PP/PM)
  • Knowledge of health, safety and environmental legislation
  • Experience with project management

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree and/or a combination of work experience in Industrial Engineering or Supply Chain and Logistics.

 

Desired Courses and/or Training:

  • Quality techniques, management
  • Environmental protection in accordance with ISO 14001
  • Introduction of common operation-instructions of plant processes
  • Introduction to technical drawing
  • Analyzing and improving processes in accordance with Six-Sigma-methods

  • Have the ability to establish and maintain a good relationship with all internal customers.
  • Have the ability to work in an international team.
  • Must possess excellent communication and presentation skills, both verbal and written.

Physical Requirements:

  • Vision:adequate to enter and read material on computer screens.Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, the giving of directions and other business interactions
  • Hearing:able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office settings Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals.
  • Speaking:able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification.
  • Equipment Operation:able to operate personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors.
  • Carrying:able to occasionally carry up to 20lbs/9kg which engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.
  • Lifting:able to occasionally lift up to 30lbs/14kg.
  • Pushing/Pulling:able to push/pull items in office areas and on shop floor.
  • Sitting:able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.
  • Squatting/Kneeling:able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
  • Standing:able to stand for extended periods of time delivering information.
  • Travel/Mobility: able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time and on short notice.
  • Walking:able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor or outdoor surfaces other business interactions
