Position Summary:

  • Responsible for process management with the designated service provider (paint) and for arranging, participating in and following up after close-in inspection by the Airline (customer).
  • Responsible to ensure painting contractors are fully aware of and are organized to meet Airbus standards for quality and completion for all Aircraft delivered in Mobile. Monitors contractor for compliance and ensures corrective action is taken.
  • Evaluates quality of painting in accordance with Airbus work specifications, procedures and policies, the manufacturer's technical data as well as EASA guidelines. This includes the application of primers and topcoats in accordance with Airbus specifications.
  • Accountable for acceptance of painted aircraft as part of the A/C Delivery Team. 

Essential Functions:

  •  Accountable for ensuring Acceptance for the FAL, of the painted Aircraft from the paint service provider via a quality gate process. Responsible to ensure that the service is undertaken and delivered by the service provider to Airbus in conformity with Airbus Quality and Safety standards, and POA rules.  
  • Responsible to analyze operational impact of decisions on acceptability of the aircraft with other Airbus concerned divisions including end Customers, and the authority to prevent acceptance to FAL.
  • Manage Concessions (and signatories) and follow-up non-conformance raised during Suppliers' handover phase, in order to report it for containment, correction and prevention using Airbus tools or by using common Quality supply chain tools (Quality Gates).
  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining communications between FAL and contractors including managing corrective actions and ensuring contractors act in such a way as to minimize risk for Airbus.
  • Manage recovery activities between all involved organizations (Suppliers, Program, Procurement, FAL, and Flight-Line, Delivery team) in order to support Aircraft "On Time Delivery". As part of Delivery Teams, serves as the focal point for paint quality during the Customer Aircraft Delivery phase.
  • Responsible for the management presentation of the painted Aircraft to the end Customer during Acceptance process, and shall open and close QLBs raised by the end Customer together with Product Quality team.
  • Responsible to measure customer satisfaction during Aircraft Acceptance phase in conjunction with Quality gate stakeholders and to identify all necessary actions to achieve overall Airbus Customer satisfaction targets.
  • Responsible to report, on a monthly basis, any new items impacting Aircraft Delivery.
  • Functions as a participant on Multi-Functional Teams (MFT's).
  • Responsible to initiate and support continuous improvement activities as a member of the Mobile FAL Quality Support Team.
  • Responsible to provide and audit on-the-job training to assigned personnel from the service provider/contractor.
  • Monitor quality of work in progress, as well as performance to the production schedule.
  • Submits inspection results to Quality Assurance and Product Quality for final acceptance for certification of airworthiness.
  • Assists in the maintenance of records and technical data required for Quality gate reviews.
  • Knowledgeable in the use, cleaning and maintenance of all currently used painting equipment.
  • Knowledge of logos, symbols, or designs on painted surfaces, according to blueprint specifications, using measuring instruments, stencils, and patterns. May paints designs, lettering, or other identifying information on aircraft, using paint brush or paint sprayer.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Other functions:

  • Responsible for end customer satisfaction, by understanding and fulfilling their expectations, while still protecting Airbus business.
  • The incumbent shall contribute to overall Quality continuous improvement. 

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

    • A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in Quality including technical knowledge and familiarity with Quality Management Systems.
    • Able to develop and communicate to contractor(s) inspection plans for paint. Inspections include observations for orange peel; dents, leakage, spillage, scratches, and inspection reports.
    • Demonstrably effective communication and negotiation skills to deal with contractors and minimize risk to company.
    • Knowledge of preparation processes for A/C or A/C parts' surfaces before painting operations (metallic and composite). Knowledge of sanding operations on different surfaces (including machine operation); cleaning and degreasing (water break free) surfaces and the treatment of protective surfaces (alodine etc).
    • Knowledge of thickness measurement techniques; visual inspection; orange peel, etc. Knowledge of final painting (topcoat) processes and of issues with large area painting (airless spray gun, electrostatic spray gun...).
    • Knowledge of basic Chemistry including the chemical composition, structure, and properties of substances and of the chemical processes and transformations that they undergo during application. This includes knowledge of the uses of chemicals and their interactions, danger signs, production techniques, and disposal methods.
    • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
    • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of Airbus products.
    • Knowledge of processes involved in the preparation and painting of aircraft, support equipment, and allied components.
    • Advanced knowledge of paint processes and products (lacquers, enamels, epoxies, urethanes, and acrylics) is required.
    • Ability to read, interpret and understand blueprints and diagrams as well as the ability to convey necessary information to contractors and customers.
    • Understanding of technical management and quality assurance procedures.
    • Ability to train and transfer knowledge.
    • Fluency in written and spoken English including contract terms. Ability in a language other than English is highly desirable.

 

Education/Special Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Vision: adequate to enter and read material on computer screens. Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, the giving of directions and other business interactions
  • Hearing: able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office settings Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals.
  • Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification.
  • Equipment Operation: Able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment.
  • Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 20lbs/9kg which engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.
  • Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 30lbs/14kg.         
  • Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas and on shop floor.
  • Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.
  • Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.
  • Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time delivering information.
  • Travel: able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time and on short notice. Able to work outside hangers in changing locations. Able to work on movable lifts at the aircraft in a height of approximately 40 ft.
  • Sometimes working in a ventilated fuel tank with mask I a confined space. Able to enter a wing through a 9.8 inch by 17.7 inch oval opening.
  • Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces.
