Position Summary: The position holder will be required to set up and operate a metal lathe, milling machine and CNC machine to produce precision parts and tools. Be able to operate precision measuring devices and understand/read blue prints to create precise metal parts in accordance with certain specifications.

  • Adjust machine controls and change tool settings in order to keep dimensions within specified tolerances.


    • Inspect sample work pieces to verify conformance with specifications, using instruments such as gauges, micrometers, and dial indicators.
    • Start lath or turning machines and observe operations to ensure that specifications are met.
    • Lift metal stock or work pieces manually or using hoists, and position and secure them in machines, using fasteners and hand tools.
    • Move controls to set cutting speeds and depths and feed rates, and to position tools in relation to work pieces.
    • Position, secure, and align cutting tools in tool holders on machines, using hand tools, and verify their positions with measuring instruments.
    • Study blueprints, layouts or charts, and job orders for information on specifications and tooling instructions, and to determine material requirements and operational sequences.
    • Install holding fixtures, cams, gears, and stops to control stock and tool movement, using hand tools, power tools, and measuring instruments.
    • Turn valve handles to direct the flow of coolant onto work areas or to coat disks with spinning compounds.

Other functions:

  • Participates in the maintenance/improvement of the Rework Department.
  • Participate in daily toolbox inventories to comply with tool control program

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

  • 2+ years' experience in aviation production a plus.
  • 2+ years' experience in aviation production areas as a production and repair worker or leader a plus.
  • Accumulated knowledge of production and quality rules in aviation obtained through education, prior employment. Or both.
  • The job holder is able to read and understand blueprints, drawings and diagrams. Effectively and accurately use close tolerance measuring devices that produce work product that meet close tolerances and reflects a clear technical focus and attention to detail.
  • Able to demonstrate personal responsibility.
  • Able to demonstrate leadership ability.
  • Verifiable performance with of a positive work attitude and performance as a team player.
  • An understanding of Lean processes & concepts obtained through work experience and/or training.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skill.
  • Strong problem solving ability.
  • Able to use computer tools.


Education/Special Qualifications:

  • A High School diploma or equivalent.
  • 2+ years of machinist work.



Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

Essential Functions:

  • Vision: able to see and utilize fine work tools, computer screens; able to move through work complex.


    • Hearing: able to hear in normal conversations and respond to warnings and signals.
  • Reading/Speaking: able to read and speak in the English language.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to use work tools defined in job description with skill and acceptable results; able to operate standard office equipment and utilize electronic id to enter building
  • Carrying: able to carry up to 40 lbs./18kg. when transporting tooling and parts.
  • Lifting: able to lift up to 40lbs/18kg. on occasion.
  • Pushing / Pulling: able to push/pull equipment, tools, production carts.
  • Sitting/standing: able to sit/stand for extended periods of time while performing work.
  • Squatting / Kneeling: able to regularly squat/kneel to perform work.


  • Travel: able to travel throughout work complex.
