Position Summary:

The Environmental Manager will be an essential part of the Airbus U.S. Manufacturing Facility located in Mobile, AL. This position will be responsible for managing all aspects of environmental compliance and continuous improvement for the site.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement and monitor environmental strategies and action plans, to ensure sustainable development
  • Manage and improve the site certified ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system
  • Prepare the site for annual ISO 14001:2015 internal and external certification audits
  • Advance pollution control, waste management, recycling, environmental health, conservation and renewable energy initiatives
  • Lead the development and review of technical documents including environmental policies, procedures, programs and guidance documents.
  • Liaise with all applicable internal and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and progress towards achieving environmental goals
  • Set sustainability targets, develop plans to meet those targets and oversee the delivery.
  • Ensure all applicable local, state and federal regulatory documentation and record keeping is accurately completed, submitted, and retained as necessary
  • Lead environmental site audits, routine surveys, launch/track corrective actions, and monitor trends.
  • Provide program support to all departments regarding regulatory compliance requirements and standard operating procedures.
  • Review and manage all waste handling and disposal processes.
  • Investigate environmental events to determine how such events can be prevented.
  • Support training efforts related to employee, visitor, and contractor training programs
  • Manage the on-site third party supplier responsible for site industrial cleaning and bulk waste removal scopes of work
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Basic Job Requirements:

  • Position requires extensive knowledge of local, state, and federal environmental regulations.
  • Experience in implementing and managing an ISO 14001:2015 program.
  • Ability to understand and apply government regulations related to hazardous materials and wastes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in written form.
  • Ability to maintain and ensure the confidential nature of the position.
  • Excellent Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills is a necessity.

Education/Special Qualifications:

  • Bachelor Degree in industrial and/or Environmental Engineering or related fields, or certification with 8 years proven experience in an industrial environment.
  • Certifications: PE, CHMM, ISO 14001:2015 Lead and/or Internal Auditor, or any other related certifications in environmental management (Desired)

Vision: adequate to enter and read material on computer screens. Able to identify individuals to initiate greetings, the giving of directions and other business interactions

Hearing: able to hear sufficiently to engage in conversation in office settings. Able to hear safety alerts and warning signals.

Speaking: able to engage in conversations in person and via electronic means and deliver information to groups of varying size with or without amplification.

Equipment Operation: Able to operate a wide range of personal and office electronic equipment.

Carrying: able to occasionally carry up to 20lbs/9kg while engaging in training, addressing production issues or as part of continuous improvement projects.

Lifting: able to occasionally lift up to 20lbs/9kg.

Pushing/Pulling: able to push/pull items in office areas.

Sitting: able to sit for extended periods of time at computer and in meetings.

Squatting/Kneeling: able to occasionally squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items shelved on bottom shelves.

Standing: able to stand for extended periods of time.

Travel: able to travel overseas and domestically sometimes for extended periods of time. Able to work outside in hangers in changing locations.

Walking: able to walk through office and production areas, around flight line and airstrips and sometimes on uneven indoor and/or outdoor surfaces.
