Job Summary: 

The Customs Specialist ensures that Airbus Americas, Inc. complies with corporate import policies and U.S. Customs and partner government agency regulations while enabling the supply chain to support aircraft production.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Administer and adapt customs processes and compliance controls
  • Identify and mitigate both compliance and financial risks related to import/export
  • Classify materials according to the HTSUS.
  • Maintain and update classification justification and Partner Government Agency documentation
  • Work with Airbus's external customs brokers to prepare and ensure timely and compliant customs activities
  • Audit customs declarations for accuracy and compliance with import & export regulations
  • Prepare and submit post-summary correction instructions to brokers
  • Prepare and submit Reconciliation entries
  • Assist with FTZ admission and entry processing and research inventory control discrepancies
  • Act as operational focal point and provide ad-hoc advice to cross-functional peers
  • Conduct internal training on trade compliance requirements
  • Assist with various customs-related project implementations
  • Support the Customs Manager in the development and implementation of company initiatives and projects
  • Up to 20% domestic or international travel may be required


Qualified Experience/Skills/Training:

  • Strong, demonstrable knowledge of U.S. Customs laws and regulations is required
  • 2+ years' experience in tariff classification is required
  • 4+ years' experience in import compliance or operations is required
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Ability to research and comprehend aircraft engineering and maintenance data (e.g. drawings, maintenance documentation, aeronautical & material standards, etc.)
  • Experience with voluntary Customs initiatives such as C-TPAT, ISA, Trusted Trader, etc. is preferred
  • Experience with SAP ERP and Global Trade Management software is preferred


Education / Special Qualifications:

  • U.S. Customs Broker License is preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, is required
  • Familiarity with French language is a plus

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:

  • Vision: able to see and utilize fine work tools, computer screens; able to move through office and from point to point to find specific co-workers and in-house experts.
  • Hearing: able to hear in normal conversations and respond to warnings and signals.
  • Speaking: able to participate in normal business conversations.
  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): able to use work tools defined in job description with skill and acceptable results; able to operate standard office equipment and utilize electronic id to enter building
  • Carrying: able to carry up to 40 lbs./18kg. when transporting documents, printer paper and similar items. Lifting: able to lift up to 40lbs/18kg. on occasion.
